Experience the history of energy

On Heritage Day, VERBUND is opening the historic Kaprun main power station. During free special guided tours, visitors will learn more about the development of hydropower and its importance for Austria’s electricity supply.

You can also visit the newly redesigned VERBUND exhibition.

Six free guided tours

On a guided tour of the historic power station hall, visitors can experience the history of hydroelectric power. The tour offers an insight into the technology from the early 1950s and includes a visit to the new VERBUND exhibition. You can discover the ‘world behind the socket’, and the exhibition clearly explains how electricity is generated from hydropower.

Guided tour: ‘Experience Hydropower’

First tour: 9.00 am to 9.30 am
Second guided tour: 9.30 am to 10.00 am
Third tour: 10.00 am to 10.30 am
Fourth tour: 10.30 am to 11.00 am
Fifth tour: 11.00 am to 11.30 am
Sixth tour: 11.30 am to 12.00 pm

Registration is not required.

Getting here and parking

There is on-site parking. The event can also be reached by public transport: bus route 660 runs regularly between Zell am See and Kaprun. From the Sigmund Thun Klamm bus stop, it is only a few minutes’ walk to the Hauptstufe power station and the VERBUND Information Centre.
