New perspectives
The Kaprun high-altitude reservoirs are among Austria’s most impressive tourist attractions. To ensure that you can continue to enjoy this special experience in the future, the site is being gradually developed as part of a comprehensive investment package by VERBUND Tourismus GmbH, running until 2030.
The first projects were launched in August 2026. Over the coming years, new facilities and improved visitor areas will be introduced, making your visit even more varied, comfortable and enjoyable.
Here’s what you can expect
A key element of the first phase of construction is the building of a new shop featuring a modern meeting point for guided tours of the dam.
In addition, a new viewing platform is being built. In future, it will offer breathtaking views of the high-alpine landscape and the impressive reservoirs – thereby opening up new perspectives on the unique world around Kaprun.

Other projects that are already underway
Work is also already underway in other areas of the attraction to further enhance the experience for our guests.
New nature trail to the Fürthermoar Alm
A new adventure trail is being created between the reservoirs and the Fürthermoar Alm. In future, it will encourage visitors to explore the alpine surroundings even more thoroughly and will add another attractive dimension to this popular destination.
Redesign of the exhibition at the Kaprun Information Centre (Hauptstufe)
The exhibition at the Kaprun Hauptstufe Information Centre in the valley is being redesigned and further developed in terms of both content and presentation. The aim is to convey the fascinating interplay between nature, technology and energy in a way that is even more contemporary and vivid.
Outlook for further projects from 2027 onwards
Further developments are planned even beyond the first phase of construction, which will gradually enhance and modernise the tourist attraction. Among other things, the following are planned:
Refurbishment of the Mooserboden Restaurant
The restaurant is to be given a more modern look and made even more appealing to guests.
New interactive exhibition at Höhenburg
A modern exhibition is taking shape here, presenting its content in a contemporary, vivid and interactive way.
Construction of a new restaurant at Klammsee
The existing kiosk will be replaced by a modern new building, which will significantly enhance the range of food and drink on offer at this location.
Step by step into the future
The construction projects will be carried out in several stages. During the building works, there may be occasional restrictions at the attraction. We ask for your understanding if access to certain areas is temporarily restricted or if there are changes to the usual arrangements.
Most of the work must be carried out in summer and autumn, as the high-altitude location means there is only a limited window of opportunity for the work to be carried out. We are doing everything we can to minimise the impact on your visit.
